Black Dog Pack Playlist

When the black dog named depression, middle name anxiety, comes to town the world can seem to slow. A camera focus zooms in on you, and like the Super Bowl your life is in a five second delay — replays in slow motion. Every action is over-analyzed, and its easy to feel alone.

In the long run, it helps to read about people like you and meet people like you.  It helps to meet the people who make you less alone. In the moment, however, each of those opportunities seems like a mountain needing moving. Making it through your day leaves you feeling exhausted, like a runner after a marathon they didn’t want to run. There is no energy left to move mountains.

Times like these, I’ve found, call for a little mood music. Of all the types of employment and pastimes, artists seem to collectively contain the highest volume of depressed and anxious employees. This, inherently, gives us a plethora of music connecting us directly to a person just like us — if just for a moment. So, if you find yourself in need of a friend and no energy to move mountains, load this playlist into the closest musical device and they’ll all be there ready to back you up.
